Does this sound like your child?

  1. They seem more withdrawn, sad, or easily upset
  2. They are struggling with friendships or feeling lonely
  3. They have trouble expressing emotions and often feel overwhelmed
  4. Their behaviour changed after a major event like a move, parental separation, or losing a parent
  5. They are experiencing school stress, academic pressure, or social anxiety
  6. They are dealing with anger, irritability, or outbursts that feel hard to manage
  7. They are having trouble sleeping, concentrating, or staying motivated
  8. They say things like “I do not know who to talk to” or “no one understands me”

These signs can show up differently in every young person. Therapy helps uncover what they are feeling beneath the surface and gives them tools to move forward.

How child and teen therapy works at Our Space

Therapy sessions are adapted to your child’s age, comfort level, and personality. We use a mix of talk based therapy, play based strategies, emotion coaching, and skill building depending on what fits best.

In therapy, young people learn to:

  1. understand and name their emotions
  2. process experiences like grief, trauma, bullying, or family changes
  3. communicate their needs in healthier ways
  4. reduce anxiety and build confidence
  5. improve coping skills for stress, anger, and frustration
  6. develop healthier relationships at home, school, and socially

Parents and caregivers are included in the process through check ins, guidance, and collaborative planning to support progress outside of the session.

Support for Different Child and Teen Experiences

Support for Different Child and Teen Experiences

Grief and Loss

Children and teens often struggle to understand or cope with the loss of a parent, relative, or important figure. Therapy provides a gentle space to make sense of their grief, talk about worries, and feel supported during a painful transition.

Emotional and Behavioural Changes

Support for anxiety, mood changes, anger, withdrawal, or difficulties with emotional regulation.

School Stress and Social Challenges

Help with academic pressure, focus concerns, bullying, peer conflict, or confidence issues.

Family Transitions

Support for children and teens adjusting to separation, divorce, blended families, relocation, or cultural and generational differences at home.

Identity Development in Teens

A safe place for teens exploring who they are, their values, their emotions, or their sense of belonging.

Support for ADHD

If your child or teen is having trouble with focus, impulsive behaviour, school stress, or big emotions, ADHD may be playing a role.

Therapy gives them tools to stay organized, manage their feelings, and build routines that work for them. Parents also receive support to better understand their child’s needs and feel more confident at home.

To begin therapy, you can book a free consultation or reach out through our contact form. Our clinic will help schedule an initial appointment to discuss your needs and goals for counselling.

During your first meeting, we'll discuss your background, the challenges you're facing, and your goals. This initial session helps create a comfortable environment and allows us to understand your unique situation. You can expect to talk about your experiences, feelings, and we'll explain the therapy process while answering any questions you may have.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. Many clients start with weekly appointments, while others choose a different pace depending on their needs. The frequency of therapy is flexible and tailored to each individual.

Yes. All conversations in therapy are private and confidential, with the exception of rare situations where disclosure is required by law. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship and helps create a safe space for clients.

Therapy can be helpful to anyone. If you are experiencing challenges such as but not exclusive to stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or identity-related concerns, therapy can help unpack the layers. It can also be a space where you feel seen and heard, focus on your relationships, and figure out what you want from life. Many clients find that even one session provides clarity on whether counselling feels supportive for their needs.

Our therapists are trained in a range of different approaches. The most important thing as the client is how comfortable you feel with your therapist and your therapeutic relationship. We will explore your concerns and discuss what approach is clinically proven to help with your individual needs.

Yes. We provide online therapy across Ontario, as well as other Canadian provinces. Virtual therapy makes mental health support accessible and flexible, and there is ample evidence suggesting that virtual therapy works.

Many extended health insurance plans and workplace benefit programs cover psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. Major providers such as Canada Life, Sun Life, and Manulife often include mental health coverage. Coverage amounts and eligibility vary by plan, so we recommend checking directly with your insurance company or HR department to confirm your benefits.
